Ultimate Guide to Planning a Destination Wedding in Greece

1) Having a destination wedding in Greece

Greek sovereign land includes 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, of which only 227 islands are inhabited. This is a truly unique phenomenon for the European continent.

We love this country so much that we have been to Greece over 20 times in the last few years! Vacation, personal trips, shooting and filming wedding in different Greek islands yet we still can't get enough of the Greek flair and vibes. With how diverse the islands are (and even Greek mainland which has so many underrated destinations), I truly believe that there is always a suitable place for everyone's wedding!

The scenic beauty of Greece with its enchanting islands adorned by green hills and bizarre rock formations, from which a breathtaking view over the Aegean Sea opens up, offers an almost inviting backdrop for your dream wedding!

Where is possible to hold your wedding in Greece?

In Greece, the easiest way for foreign citizens to marry is by registry office. But I guess you're coming all the way to have your wedding in a confined town hall room - so great news is that it is also possible to hold a wedding ceremony in a romantic place in nature of your choices.  Church weddings are rather difficult for foreigners because there are hardly any Catholic or Protestant churches.

2) Best time to have a Wedding in Greece

There's no time like the present! Whenever people ask me “When is the best time to visit and having a wedding Greece?”, I reply “Whenever you want!”. Greece is a fantastic country to visit all the year through no matter what the season.

Many others are fan of a true Greek summer but after all these years traveling and visiting many different Greece islands I personally don't fancy the scorching sun and crowded beaches in July and August but to each his own.

- Best time to visit Greece for the Weather:
May and June, September and October.

- Best time to visit Greece for Swimming & Sunbathing:
Between April and October.

- Best time to visit Greece for Sightseeing:
Between April and June, and September and October.

- Best time to visit Greece for Greek Island Hopping:
Between May and October (avoid August!).

- Best time to visit Greece for Cycling:
Between May and October (Avoid August!).

- Best time to visit Greece on a Budget:
Between October and March.

- Best time to visit Greece for Skiing (Greece Mainland):
Between December and April.

- Best time to visit Athens in summer:
August since everyone is left for the islands, there are at least 75% less people than the other months of summer!

- Best time to visit Peloponnese:
The Peloponnese are pushing for perfection when it comes to climate, especially in spring in autumn. In spring (April & May), the hiking is wonderful with mountain meadows bursting with wildflowers and heavenly aromas. The warmth of the sun making it perfect for hikers and cyclists, although water is still pretty cold for swimming. And in autumn, olive harvests are omnipresent, the sea is warm and skies are blue, but the Athenian crowds have gone home. Summer can be scorching hot (June, July, August)!
